Original Fabrics:
Our Ford Galaxie tops are made using patterns taken from original dealer tops. The vinyl is Haartz pinpoint vinyl which is identical to the original topping. Haartz Stayfast canvas tops are also available. You can read detailed fabric descriptions via the 'Help' link at the top of this page.
Windows:
We can provide Galaxie tops with either a plastic or a glass rear window.
Installation:
You can read how this classic two part top installs via the link below. This link is to a summary of our top installation manual. The full manual is listed with accessories, and is included with our top restoration packages.
About half our customers perform their own installation. Confidence with a staple gun or tack hammer and the use of contact cement are required. There is no sewing.
Hold Down Cables:
A cable is threaded through the side hem of the top on each side. The cables hold the top to the top frame in the front and in the rear. Cables are not visible after installation. We recommend changing cables with each new top.
Tack Strips:
Tacking strips are embedded in the header bow and the rear top bow. They receive the installation staples or tacks. Tack strips should last through at least two tops.
Pads:
Pads build out the top from underneath. The padding can last through two tops.
Boots:
The boot is an optional storage bag which covers the top when it is lowered. A boot is generally selected in one of the modern leather grained boot vinyl colors.

Well Liners:
The rear well lining is available configured to original shape. A well liner can last through several tops.
Main Top and Curtain Available Separately:
The "curtain" is the trade name for the rear window section. The main top is the rest of the top. (Read the installation link below for further information.) The main top and the curtain are available separately in the event that one is damaged while the other section on your car is in good condition.
If you desire a complete top, and you are not ordering a full restoration package, then you should order the main top and either the glass or the plastic rear window section.
Hydraulics:
We now stock hydraulic cylinders, motor-pumps, and hoses for your convertible tops. All are made to OEM specifications. Each can be ordered separately; however, when ordering hydraulic cylinders we recommend replacing both. The chances are that both hydraulic cylinders were manufactured at the same time: if one is on its way out the other may follow. If the top is raised and one hydraulic cylinder is working harder than the other the result over time can lead to a slightly bent convertible top frame. The replacement of both hydraulic cylinders will ensure that the top raises and lowers symmetrically.
Systems for this car take Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and have a 5 year warranty when used with this fluid. Brake fluid should not be used as it voids the warranty. We also offer an installation manual when ordered.
The 12 volt motor-pumps include a mounting bracket with rubber grommets to reduce vibration.
We also offer a rebuilding service for motor-pumps. Not all are repairable, but it is less expensive to have one rebuilt than to buy a new one. The motor-pump would need to be sent to us for evaluation. Hoses come with all new fittings and are made specifically to fit your car.
