Original Fabric(s):
The original 1994-1995.5 Ford Mustang convertible top fabric was pinpoint vinyl.
Some convertibles featured the Haartz Stayfast canvas fabric. Stayfast canvas has a butyl rubber core making it the most durable topping. Vinyl is easier to keep clean.
Windows:
The original rear window was glass. We also offer the less expensive plastic rear window top. Our plastic windows are all of the highest grade automotive plastic.
Installation:
This is a classic two part top: the rear window section is stapled, using stainless steel staples (to fabric trim and to the framework) above and below. Then the main top is installed over it. The process is summarized in the link below.
If you are comfortable renting and using an air driven staple gun then you are a good candidate for do-it-yourself installation. This involves stapling and the use of contact or neoprene cement; there is no sewing.
Our full restoration packages include the two part top manual along with supplemental Ford installation data from the shop manual.
DVD Video:
We list a video showing a full restoration performed in an upholstery shop. It is listed under "Accessories." Note: It may lack some of the instructional detail of the booklet, but it will inform about this restoration.
Hold down cables:
Cables are threaded through internal pockets in the main part of the top. They hold the top to the folding frame at the front and rear at the sides. Cables are hidden in the completed installation. New side cables are recommended with each new top.
Most years' tops require short cables in the side (vertical) hems. These often last through two or even three tops. These flap cables were eliminated after 1999 and the side attachment flaps are secured with contact cement instead.
Tacking strips:
Tacking strips embedded in the front frame bow and the bow over the rear window receive the staples or tacks there.
Top pads:
A pair of wide belt pads run along the sides under the top. These are special Mustang pads which 'build out' the top.
Hydraulics:
We now stock hydraulic cylinders, motor-pumps, and hoses for your convertible tops. All are made to OEM specifications. Each can be ordered separately; however, when ordering hydraulic cylinders we recommend replacing both. The chances are that both cylinders were manufactured at the same time: if one is on its way out the other may follow. If the top is raised and one hydraulic cylinder is working harder than the other the result over time can lead to a slightly bent convertible top frame. The replacement of both will ensure that the top raises and lowers symmetrically.
Systems for this car take Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and have a 5 year warranty when used with this fluid. Brake fluid should not be used as it voids the warranty. We also offer an installation manual when ordered.
The 12 volt motor-pumps include a mounting bracket with rubber grommets to reduce vibration.
We also offer a rebuilding service for motor-pumps. Most are repairable and it is less expensive to have one rebuilt than to buy a new one. Your motor-pump should be wrapped well to prevent leakage.

I received the top, rear window section in late December ....... Thanks for
the prompt shipping and they matched perfectly.
I probably would not attempted this task if I was not somewhat mechanical.
I also purchase the DVD, and it made the job go smoothly. Its not that I
want to do this every day, but it took it from a 10 difficulty to a 6.
But, I watched video twice before attempting the replacement. While doing
the installation, I had the DVD on my laptop again following the steps,
and my wife says it looks like a professional instalation ........
