What is a two-part top? All Toyota Celica convertible tops are classic two-part tops. This means that the main top and the rear window must be integrated during the installation process. Ready to start shopping for your own Toyota Celica convertible top? Click here.
How do I choose my Toyota Celica top? We offer the Toyota Celica convertible top with plastic or glass windows in two fabrics: Haartz Pinpoint Vinyl and Haartz Stayfast Canvas. Here's what you need to know about each material before making a purchase:
Haartz Pinpoint Vinyl: Haartz Pinpoint Vinyl is a two-ply composite with a PVC outer layer and a cotton inner lining. Haartz Pinpoint Vinyl is a popular Celica convertible top fabric. Pinpoint refers to the little dots on the vinyl surface. If you take care of a Haartz pinpoint vinyl convertible top, it can easily last 10 years.
Haartz Stayfast Canvas: If you're looking to upgrade your vinyl top, consider a convertible top made of Haartz Stayfast Canvas. This luxurious fabric was original to the Toyota Celica convertible. This fabric is the American substitute for the German canvases used in Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW. Haartz Stayfast Canvas is a three-ply composite material made of an acrylic square weave outer fabric, a butyl rubber core, and a cotton lining. The butyl rubber core promises to make Haartz Stayfast Canvas last a very long time. This canvas is a little richer looking than the vinyl. It's also a little harder to clean. Stayfast Canvas has both better static and dynamic wear ratings than vinyl tops, and so it costs more. Stayfast canvas is a great choice for a Celica soft top. Want to shop for Celica tops? Can I Install the Toyota Celica convertible top myself? Yes! The Toyota Celica requires a classic two-part convertible top, meaning there's a main top section and a rear window section, the "curtain." The two convertible-top sections are integrated during the installation process.
If you can use an air-driven staple gun and are patient and methodical, you are very likely to be able to install the Toyota Celica convertible top. Installing your own Celica soft top can save you hundreds of dollars in restoration labor costs!
To help you install your own Celica convertible top, we offer a profusely illustrated Toyota Celica convertible top manual. This covers, in detail, all the steps for do-it-yourself convertible top installation. You may purchase the manual to review it before purchasing a convertible top package. (We would then pro-rate future purchase of the convertible top when it is ordered.)
In most cases, our convertible top packages include everything you need to install your own Toyota Celica convertible top. (Convertible top frame seals must be ordered separately if required.) For the best deals, check out our Toyota Celica Best Buy convertible top packages, which include the Celica convertible top parts needed for do-it-yourself installation.
There is no sewing involved in installing a two-part convertible top, but you will have to be comfortable with a staple gun, manipulating convertible-top fabric, and applying contact cement. Our convertible-top packages include stainless-steel staples and the very best grade of contact cement with brush. Want to see our selection of Celica convertible top packages? Click here.
Can I keep my Toyota Celica headliner? The headliner is the inside fabric ceiling. If your headliner is in good condition, you can re-install it under your new Celica top.
Can I replace just part of my original top? Yes. These tops, as originally designed, are two-part tops, similar in installation to most American tops. The rear window section is called the curtain. The Main Top covers everything from the rear bow to the windshield. You may read how these tops are designed and installed in our top install manual summary. The top installs with staples or tacks, and contact cement. There is no sewing. Approximately half of our "two-part top" customers are do-it-yourself installers. You can purchase the main top and the curtain separately. Ready to start shopping? Click here.
Do I need new hold down cables? Cables are used to attach the top to the frame at the sides. They thread into special pockets on the inner sides of the top before attachment. New cables are recommended with each new top. Need new hold down cables? Click here.
How long will my Celica's webbing last? Webbing attached to the top bows under the top serves to build out and support the top. Webbing can be re-used through an average of two tops. Need new webbing? Click here.
What should I know about my hydraulic system? We now stock hydraulic cylinders, motor-pumps, and hoses for your convertible tops. All are made to OEM specifications. Each can be ordered separately; however, when ordering hydraulic cylinders we recommend replacing both. The chances are that both hydraulic cylinders were manufactured at the same time: if one is on its way out the other may follow. If the top is raised and one hydraulic cylinder is working harder than the other the result over time can lead to a slightly bent convertible top frame. The replacement of both hydraulic cylinders will ensure that the top raises and lowers symmetrically.
Parts in this category (Toyota Celica (Asc)) fit cars for years: 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990.
We a now pleased to offer hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic motor pumps, and hydraulic hose sets for many different convertibles, they will be listed on your cars page if available. Also, checkout our newly added roof rail weatherstripping seals, front header weatherstripping seals, door weatherstripping seals, trunk weatherstripping seals. Look for extra savings on weatherstripping seals kits.
We are continuing to grow our convertible related products: These include convertible top latches, tonneau covers, relays, switches, rear tacking rails (trimsticks), seat covers, car covers, and carpeting.
