Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder Convertible Tops and Convertible Top Parts

The Eclipse Spyder convertible was introduced in 1996. While some trim and drive train changes were made, the convertible top frame and the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder convertible top itself remained unchanged through 1999. The convertible top frame, and consequently the soft top, was changed in the 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyders.

From 2000 to 2005, the Eclipse Spyder convertible top is unchanged. A new convertible top is again introduced in 2006 for the Spyders.

One Piece Tops:

The convertible tops are integrated, one piece, tops. This means that, unlike most American tops, the rear window is integral with the rest of the top, making convertible top installation simpler than for the classic American two piece tops.

Fabrics:

All dealer tops originally had canvas as the fabric. Haartz Stayfast canvas is the American made equivalent fabric for Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible top replacements that retain canvas as the convertible top fabric. However, for the do-it-yourself installer replacing his or her convertible top with a vinyl one is an option. While vinyl has a lower overall wear rating, the cost advantage is largely offset for the do-it-yourself convertible top installer who does not face a labor charge in replacing a top slightly more frequently.
