The first Mercury Monterey was produced in 1952 and the Mercury Monterey convertible was part of this marque. The Mercury Monterey convertible top stayed the same from 1952-1954. The model and the convertible top for the Mercury Monterey was changed periodically and the marque was merged with the Park Lane and then the Marquis until 1970 which was the last year for the convertible version.
The Mercury Monterey convertible is now considered a "collector car." Monterey convertibles in restorable condition are still affordable, parts specialists can supply replacement parts and the fully restored Mercury Monterey convertible is an elegant classic.
Full Convertible Top Packages
Convertible top restoration generally requires the two part top (the main convertible top and the rear window), top hold down cables (not present in all years of Monterey convertibles), convertible top pads and possibly new tacking strips (which take the staples or tacks that fix the new convertible top to the frame.)

Two Part Tops: Can I Install the Mercury Monterey Top Myself?
We offer a profusely illustrated convertible top manual, now in its fourth edition. This covers, in detail, all the steps for do-it-yourself convertible top installation. In particular, the manual applies to these cars which all have a two part convertible top. Owners may purchase the manual to review it before purchasing a convertible top package. We would then pro-rate future purchase of your Mercury Monterey convertible top when it is ordered.
If you can use an air compressor driven staple gun (or else our heavy dury electric stapler also offered), and are patient and methodical, you are very likely to be able to install any of these convertible tops. The convertible top packages include everything needed in most cases. (Convertible top frame seals must be ordered separately if required.)
Note that there is no sewing involved in installing a two part convertible top. There is stapling and there is manipulation of the top fabric which in places is applied with contact cement. Our convertible top packages include stainless steel staples for air guns and the very best grade of contact cement with brush.
