The Studebaker is one of the most classic car designs produced. There is even a Studebaker museum located in South Bend, Indiana! Some of the Studebakers on exhibit there are official "national treasures." Proud Studebaker convertible owners may want to consider a visit there!
Studebaker manufactured convertibles from 1946 to 1964. There were several different Studebaker model names but in any year most Studebaker convertible models had the same convertible top frame and the same convertible top.
Our factory has made computer "maps" of original Studebaker tops and creates fine reproductions of all the Studebaker convertible tops for all years.
Classic Top Design:
Like almost all American convertibles the Studebaker convertible top was designed to install in two sections, the rear window section and, over the convertible's rear window section, the main top. We have a manual on installing two part convertible tops, which applies to every Studebaker convertible top. This convertible top manual is summarized below. The full manual is available on any of the Studebaker convertible top links shown on the right.
Studebaker Convertible Top: Can I Install Myself?
We offer a profusely illustrated convertible top manual, now in its fourth edition. We are the exclusive disttributor of this tutorial and manual for installers of any classic two part convertible top. This covers, in detail, all the steps for do-it-yourself convertible top installation. In particular, the manual applies to cars, like the Studebaker with a two part convertible top. Owners may purchase the manual to review it before purchasing a convertible top package. We would then pro-rate future purchase of the convertible top when it is ordered.
If you can use an air compressor driven staple gun, or if you purchase the heavy duty electric stapler from our site, and are patient and methodical, you are very likely to be able to install any of these convertible tops. The convertible top packages include everything needed in most cases. (Convertible top frame seals must be ordered separately if required. Seals attached to the framework are not part of the top itself.)
Note that there is no sewing involved in installing a Studebaker convertible top. There is stapling and there is manipulation of the convertible top fabric which in places is applied with contact cement. Our convertible top packages include stainless steel staples and the very best grade of contact cement with brush. Please click the link to your convertible top page for more information.
The "Help" link describes fabrics, warranty details and other issues that may be of interest to the shopper for a new convertible top.
We have been in the convertible top and parts business since 1974.
Each Studebaker convertible top page has a link to the same company 'Help' information.
